Who We Are

About the Library

Kemmerer Library is an association non-profit library, incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization.

The Library began more than 50 years ago in the New Vernon Volunteer Fire Department. Then after operating for many years as a one-room library in the Town Hall, Kemmerer Library Harding Township opened in May of 2010. The building was funded entirely by private donations and stands on land leased by Harding Township.

The Library continues to be principally funded by private contributions. More than 80% of the its annual budget is supported by resident donations. These contributions are supplemented by funds raised through events sponsored by The Friends of the Library, including its ever-popular bi-annual spring event, Art-in Bloom.

Our dedicated part-time staff and a host of enthusiastic volunteers offer their time and expertise to make the Library a friendly and welcoming place to visit. Cognizant of the special community we serve, the Library staff strives to offer personalized, friendly service to ensure patron satisfaction. The Library also tailors its collections and programs to the interests of our patrons.

The Library is the community center of Harding Township. Residents drop in for books and programs, and also to catch up on local news and see their neighbors. We encourage residents to form clubs, run programs, provide ideas and join in. We welcome community members, non-profit groups, local book clubs and residents to use our meeting rooms or patio for meetings.

As a member of the Main Library Alliance, Kemmerer Library offers Harding residents access to an expansive collection beyond our borders. Kemmerer cardholders may borrow from the collections of 49 libraries in Morris, Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren Counties, and arrange for delivery and pick-up from Kemmerer Library.
