Lanzerotti Lecture 2019 – Bettina Bierly
We are delighted to announce that Bettina Bierly will deliver the 2019 Lanzerotti Lecture.
Bettina Bierly is a Costume Designer, Wardrobe Supervisor, Knitter/Dyer, Lecturer and former Costume Director for NYC Opera. Her work has been seen in performance spaces as diverse as Lincoln Center, Bickford Theater and on Celebrity Cruises around the world.
Drawing from her collection of photographs, costumes and accessories, Bettina will take us backstage and show us what it takes to costume a live show, sharing experiences of her current work at NYC Ballet as well as constructing silk dresses for Hamilton.
Refreshments will be served following the lecture.

Liverpool to Fame
Beginning of the Beatles:  City of Liverpool native, Paul Groom, brings a unique perspective on the Beatles from obscurity to fame in the early 1960’s. Paul attended the same high school as Paul McCartney and George Harrison, John Lennon’s Sunday School, and the youth club where John Lennon met Paul McCartney.  He will discuss the Beatles’ family, musical influences, “skiffle”, early musical tours, relationship with Brian Epstein and more. History of Rock & Roll from the Blues to the British Invasion, Wednesday, November 20th, 2019, 2pm.  Paul Groom will take you on a retrospective of Rock & Roll and Rhythm & Blues. He examines the various trends that influenced these musical genres over time:  the emergence of popular radio stations and advent of TV; the migration of blacks from the rural south to urban centers and the reception of the white audience; the British music experience; and small business entrepreneurship in record distribution and more!
