Residential Well Testing
What’s in your water?
For the third year in a row, the Library is partnering with the Great Swamp Watershed Association to offer modestly priced well testing for residents in Harding Township and surroundings. We offer a basic package, testing e-coli, lead, and volatile organics, with several other choices optional.
Here’s how to participate:
Stop by the Library between March 1 and 21 to pick up your well testing kit and instructions. A $10 non-refundable deposit for materials and test kit is required. Return your sample with payment in full on the morning of March 22 between 8 a.m. and 12 noon. The results will be available with a couple of weeks.
New Jersey Makers Day
Upcycling: Create, Make, Take Home!
The Library is looking forward to hosting its first ever event as official NJ Makers Day event sponsor.
NJ Makers Day is designed to be a statewide event that celebrates, promotes, and in many cases may introduces maker culture, as well as the values associated with making, tinkering and STEM-based learning. In 2016, NJ Makers Day drew over 40,000 individual attendees to more than 230 participating sites across all 21 counties in the state.
At Kemmerer Library we will be upcycling old books to give them a second life as fun, useful objects: bowls, post-cards, folded book projects, and much more. Join us for some creative tinkering in the downstairs multi-use room. All ages are invited to attend and make!
Altered book projects for kids: Pop-Up Postcards, secret keepsake box, fun buttons
Altered book projects for adults: Paper bowl (2-day project), folded book
Art4All — Acrylics for Beginners
Revisit your inner artist!
Barbara Gerson of Art4All Studio is ready to teach a second series of 6 painting with acrylics workshops for beginners here at the Library. A trained art teacher, Barbara runs a successful art program for all ages out of her studio in Somerville. We are thrilled that she will make the journey to Harding in the coming weeks.
The cost for 6 sessions is $60. Participants are asked to bring their own paint brushes and 3 canvases. We supply easels, paint, and palettes.
Registration required, please. We need at least 8 participants to start the series.

Modern parenting is defined by an unprecedented level of overprotectiveness: parents who rush to school at the whim of a phone call to deliver forgotten assignments, who challenge teachers on report card disappointments, mastermind children’s friendships, and interfere on the playing field. As teacher and writer Jessica Lahey explains, even though these parents see themselves as being highly responsive to their children’s well being, they aren’t giving them the chance to experience failure—or the opportunity to learn to solve their own problems.
Refreshments will be served. Registration requested, please.
